چکیده

This paper reviews best practices for experimental design and analysis sign language research using neurophysiological methods, such as electroencephalography (EEG) other methods with high temporal resolution, well identifies methodological challenges in on natural processing. In particular, we outline the considerations generating linguistically physically well-controlled stimuli accounting 1) layering of manual non-manual information at different timescales, 2) possible unknown linguistic non-linguistic visual cues that can affect processing, 3) variability across stimuli, 4) predictive Two specific concerns regard to interpretation observed event related potential (ERP) effects dynamic are discussed detail. First, discuss “trigger/effect assignment problem”, which describes difficulty determining time point calculating ERPs. issue is problem onset a critical (i.e., stimulus time), lack clarity how border between lexical (sign) transitional movement (motion trajectory individual signs) should be defined. Second, differences dynamics within signing might influence ERP patterns controlled when creating material studies. addition, alternative approaches EEG data analyses timestamping continuous trigger markers each potentially relevant cue stimuli. Throughout discussion, present empirical evidence need account dynamic, multi-channel, multi-timescale signal characterizes languages order ensure ecological validity languages.

Simultaneous fMRI and EEG source localization with visual motion stimuli

Introduction Simultaneous acquisition of fMRI and EEG is thought to be a potential solution for enhancing the temporal resolution of fMRI. To enhance the temporal resolution of fMRI with aids of the EEG data, it is essential to match the fMRI data precisely with the EEG data in the spatial domain. For better spatial matching between fMRI and EEG, we applied EEG source localization to the EP/ERP...

An fMRI study of human visual cortex in response to spatiotemporal properties of visual stimuli

ABSTRACT  Background: The brain response to temporal frequencies (TF) has been already reported, but with no study reported for different TF with respect to various spatial frequencies (SF).  Materials and Methods: fMRI was performed by 1.5T GE-system in 14 volunteers during checkerboard, with TFs of 4, 6, 8 and 10Hz in low and high SFs of 0.5 and 8cpd.  Results: Average percentage BOLD signa...

The effects of visual stimuli on EEG mu rhythms in healthy adults

[Purpose] Several action observation/imagery training studies have been conducted in patients with limited physical activity showing improvements in motor function. However, most studies compared effects of action observation and imagery, so little is known about the changes caused by subsequent observation of target objects. Moreover, few studies analyzed brain wave changes in the EEG mu rhyth...

ERP analysis of emotional stimuli from brain EEG signal

The main objective of our study is to analyze the event related potential (ERP) of EEG brain signal from different emotional responses. An affective picture simulation was designed to find out neurophysiological characteristics of EEG brain signal. Event oriented EEG dynamics in ERP were analyzed statistically by using the one-way ANOVA method (p<0.01). Twenty one healthy college students were ...

Analysis of the EEG Signals Response to Musical Signal Stimuli

In recent years, many studies have shown that music can reflect quantifiable physiological effects on human. However, in the part of EEG, not many research projects have made use of EEG to verify the music influence on human brain activity. This research has emphasized on the development of analytical tools and methods for bio-signals, especially focused on the part of EEG with musical signal s...
